PDRI Facilitation Certification Training

Project Definition Rating Index PDRI

Learn how to implement the tool that has revolutionized front end planning and markedly improved performance on major construction project costs, schedules and virtually all operational characteristics.  Over the past two decades, the Construction Industry Institute (CII) has developed five widely-used scope definition tools to enhance front end planning; these tools are called the Project Definition Rating Index (PDRI), each having a specific focus on three industry sectors: industrial, infrastructure or building; and further focused on large and small projects. Taken together, this suite of tools provides those involved in project planning, design, and construction in these industry sectors a way to proactively prevent missteps and mistakes, and dramatically raise the likelihood of project success.

The PDRI tool includes a comprehensive checklist of scope definition elements presented in a score sheet format allowing an integrated project team the opportunity to critically assess the status of a project during front end planning; the tool helps the user determine a score that appraises the project’s level of definition at a point early enough to address the gaps identified in the assessment session. To be used effectively, the tool should ideally be facilitated in the team environment by a neutral facilitator.

PDRI provides numerous benefits to the project team including better team alignment, risk assessment/gap analysis, progress monitoring, and a benchmarking basis.  These five tools are the most widely used products in CII’s portfolio of management tools.

This course focuses on how and when to most effectively employ the tool. It will overview details about the PDRI and its use, and include advanced facilitation instruction incorporating a hands-on PDRI facilitation exercise; use of the PDRI software tools will be demonstrated. The class will also be applicable to implementation of the FEED MATRS tool as well.  The class is the first step in becoming a Certified PDRI Facilitator.  Certification is optional and includes a written exam, which will be offered at the end of the class and a subsequent take-home PDRI exercise focused on a real project that will be evaluated by the course instructors prior to certification. CEUs will be provided for this training.

Instructor: Edd Gibson, Avi Wiezel
