  This course covers the requirements for the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of a respiratory protection program. Course topics include terminology, OSHA Respiratory Protection Standards, NIOSH certification, respiratory protection programs, and medical evaluation requirements. Program highlights include workshops on respirator selection, qualitative and quantitative fit testing, and the use of respiratory protection and support equipment. Upon course completion students will have the ability to identify and describe the elements of a respiratory protection program, the proper selection, use, and inspection of respiratory protection, protection factors, and evaluate compliance with OSHA Standards.

Authorized trainers can conduct both 10-hour and 30-hour construction industry classes that provide training to workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces along with information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a workplace safety complaint. OSHA-authorized trainers are able to issue 10 and 30-hour course completion cards to participants. Participants learn effective instructional approaches, adult learning principles, and training techniques. Participants learn to define, and explain construction industry hazards as they teach 10-hour and 30-hour construction outreach courses.

  This course is the update required every four years for all OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainers for the Construction Industry. It provides timely information on OSHA Construction Industry standards, policies and regulations.

Once we have verified that the prerequisites have been met we will send you a registration code that will allow you to proceed with the on-line registration process.

   

  The registration fee for this course includes various handout material, and electronic copies of selected presentation materials. The course is delivered in person using a combination of lectures, audio/visual presentations, group workshops, and hands-on demonstrations. Students are required to show a government issued picture ID as proof of identity.   This course covers OSHA General Industry Standards and other consensus and proprietary standards that relate to the use of hazardous materials. Course topics include flammable and combustible liquids, compressed gases, LP-gases, and cryogenic liquids. Related processes such as spraying and dipping, and use of electrical equipment in hazardous locations are also discussed. Upon course completion students will have the ability to assess compliance with OSHA hazardous materials standards, determine hazardous (classified) locations, and proper moving, storing, and handling of hazardous materials. 

   

  Course Objectives

  Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe methods for detecting unsafe storage conditions for hazardous materials
  • Explain electrical factors that may contribute to the creation or abatement of hazardous conditions
  • Relate hazardous conditions and unsafe procedures to the appropriate standards for abatement action
  • Specify the necessary precautions for hazardous operations, such as the dispensing of flammable and combustible liquids

Topics include recognition of major safety and health hazards in the construction industry, prevention strategies, safety and health management systems, OSHA requirements and guidelines, and resources available. The course is an interactive training session focusing on class discussion and workshops.   OSHA #501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards
  

  for General Industry

   

  Successful completion of this course results in participants becoming OSHA-authorized trainers in OSHA’s Outreach Training Program for the General Industry. Authorized trainers can conduct both 10-hour and 30-hour general industry classes that provide training to workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces along with information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a workplace safety complaint.

  
  

  OSHA-authorized trainers are able to issue 10 and 30-hour course completion cards to participants. Participants learn effective instructional approaches, adult learning principles, and training techniques. Participants learn to define, and explain construction industry hazards as they teach 10-hour and 30-hour construction outreach courses. 

  
  

  Note: Students in this course must prepare a presentation on an assigned OSHA Construction Outreach topic, pass a performance exam and a knowledge-based exam to successfully complete the course. Students are required to bring picture ID as proof of identity and are strongly encouraged to bring a laptop.

The course addresses the core elements of an effective safety and health management system and those central issues that are critical to each element's proper management.   This course covers OSHA Electrical Standards and the hazards associated with electrical installations and equipment. Course topics include single- and three-phase systems, cord- and plug-connected and fixed equipment, grounding, ground fault circuit interrupters, and safety-related work practices. Emphasis is placed on electrical hazard recognition and OSHA Standards, policies, and procedures and applicable portions of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Students will participate in workshops on the safe and correct use of electrical testing equipment. Upon course completion students will have the ability to understand the severity of electrical current on the human body, recognize and evaluate actual and potential electrical hazards and reference the applicable OSHA Standard, determine hazard abatement measures, and understand the proper use of electrical testing equipment.
